Our 2021 project list

2021 has officially begun and I'm sure I was not alone to welcome it with open arms. Last year had it's obvious ups and downs, but this year I'm looking to make some changes, especially in our home. I've put together a list of projects I plan to do this year and hope you'll join me along the way.

Laundry Room

First and foremost, we need to finish the dang laundry room! We’re so close! Still to do, install the hinged half of our countertop, as well as the shelf above the washer/dryer, add a rod for hanging, and a place to store utility items like brooms and mops.

Home office/ Guest room

Dane has been working from home for about a year now, and still making a desk on a random wall in our basement work. But it’s the only desk we have in this house, so it’s shared. It’s high on our priority list to add built in desks to our guest suite. I’m thinking built in shelving too. It’s going to be a place we’ll never want to leave!

Guest bathroom

Staying on theme here with our lower level, I really think we need to give that tiny bathroom a little refresh. It’s super basic, and basically trash at the same time. Since it’s such a tiny space, ’m thinking of playing with moody tones here.

Lower level entertaining

When Dane and I moved into this house about two years ago, we were blessed with amazing neighbors that actually want to hangout with us! But our lower level is a blank canvas and our main level entertaining space shares a wall with Lenna’s bedroom. So our plan is to create a few separate spaces within one (awkward) long open concept of a space. We’ll be adding in a tv spot and a table/bar area so we can host game nights!

Mudroom

I can’t leave this one out. It’s literally the only room I haven’t mentioned in our lower level. It just wouldn’t be fair. And to be honest, it won’t be too challenging. I’m thinking wall treatments, something exciting on the ceiling, and paint. The end. I may even work on this one slowly while I wait for Dane to wrap up his portion of these projects. He’ll have something to build in just about all of them.

Main level built-ins

My tv wall needs a serious makeover. Currently, my beloved Billy Bookcases flank my faux fireplace. But the gap in between each thing on that wall bothers me a tremendous amount.

I plan on ditching the fireplace frame, building a new fireplace (loving this white brick from @halfwaywholeistic), and proper built-ins on either side. To keep costs down, I’ll probably use a cheaper shelving material, but make the mantle a statement piece.

Okay, I basically have plans for every room in our house, but I’ll save those as bonus projects if I can finish my current list.
But there is one more space I want to add to our 2021 list...

Vegetable Garden

I’m dreaming pretty big on this one, and basically begging Dane to let me do it. He knows my thumb is black like my soul, but I think I have him just about sold. Haha!

I’m really determined to create a mini homestead on the extra land we have. Our lot isn’t huge, but it’s like six times bigger than we actually use, so why not? I’m thinking ten garden beds, fenced, gravel paths, a bench, landscaping around it, the whole thing.
