I took an unexpected snow day yesterday, and really enjoyed myself. We had a winter storm Monday, and with no consultations on my schedule yesterday, I decided not to risk it. The morning started off slow, just as I like it. If you follow along on Instagram, you saw that I made homemade bird treats Monday after being sent home early. My inner old lady is concerned about the birds and how they’ll find food. The recipe calls for coconut oil and bird food. That’s it. Well, it really should call for wax paper too. Live and ya learn I guess. First, melt 2tbs of coconut oil in the microwave and then mix in 1 cup of bird food. Once the food and oil is mixed well, lay a layer of wax paper on a cookie sheet or pan, and scoop oiled bird food into cookie cutter -creating a hole for string as you go. I used a pencil. I didn’t have any cookie cutters handy, so I used a mason jar lid. The process would be easier if you could leave the mixture in the cookie cutters while they set.
I own six mason jars, but when I wanted to do this project all of the lids went missing except one. Funny how that works. So I had to carefully remove the lid after each mold was filled. Put the cookie sheet into the fridge for about 30 minutes or until hardened. When ready, peel the treats from the paper, thread the string through your holes, and you’re ready to go!
