Growing up, my family never did the advent calendar thing. But they seem to either be getting more and more popular lately. ...Or maybe it's just that I'm more aware of them now? Either way, I'm into it. This whole 'Mom' thing has me like....
'oh hey girl, you want a tradition? I gotchu'.
I think typically, you get a candy or something with each passing day. But I was at a client's house last year, and her advent calendar had memories written down instead. And honestly, I LOVED THAT! Like...what a great idea to give your kids memories and things they'll hold onto, instead of that piece of candy they'll devour in 13 seconds and cry until they get more.

So I decided to make my own. I grabbed an old photo frame, some string, brightly colored paper, and got to work. I wanted my calendar to be girly and playful, so I used light green, bright pink, and red paper, and cut them into different square and rectangle shapes for added fun.

I then laid them out to make sure I liked the order of the shapes, and began to write the experiences on the back of each number.

So what ideas did I write down this year?!

5- Color in Christmas coloring book
6- Volunteer at church
7- Put up Christmas lights
8- Go to a tree farm
9- Donate food to a food bank
10- Craft night -make Christmas crafts together
11- Watch Elf before bed in Christmas pajamas

This craft is SO easy you guys. And if you can't hold your numbers on with mini clothes pins, tape them on. Or punch a hole into one corner and thread through some festive yarn or ribbon.

A word to the wise: make sure you're planning each day with a calendar nearby. Ain't nobody got time for a Christmas Tree Farm on a Tuesday.
